Hometown Heroes Banners Frequently Asked Questions

The trustees of the Bowling Green Community Foundation, through the generosity of the A.A. Green Family Fund and many other donors, are pleased to have offered this project during BGCF’s 30th anniversary year.

Q:  When will the banners be dedicated?

A:  The banners will be dedicated June 9 immediately following a 7 p.m. outdoor concert by the Bowling Green Community Band in City Park.*  All names on the banners will be read aloud, and light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited, so please bring lawn chairs.

Q:  When will the banners be displayed?

A:  The time period of the banners displayed is somewhat dependent on their location, as the city has agreements with other organizations as well.  For example, the banners located downtown will usually be displayed from approximately Memorial Day through the 4th of July.  Banners in City Park and possibly Wooster Green are anticipated to be up from Memorial Day through Veterans Day. Please note, all dates are approximate, and may change depending on City requests, and workforce availability.

Q:  I have a friend who didn’t get their banner ordered by deadline. Can s/he still get one?

A:  BGCF anticipates another offering of banners in the future, perhaps at some point in 2025.  This is dependent upon interest, fundraising, and having more poles available that are “hardware compliant.”  The BGCF website, https://www.bgohcf.org., and local media outlets will have updated information when this is available.  If you wish to be notified, please contact us by email at bgcf@bgohcf.org and provide us with your name, address, phone number, and email address.

Q:  Will the banners be changing locations each year?  Each banner is linked to a GIS Technology site (Geographic Information System Mapping) allowing people to locate the banner, and to see information about the honoree (if that was provided on the form).  It is anticipated that the location will remain the same, unless the City needs to make changes with the pole. One exception will be the BG City Park where we will be reversing the placement of the banners on the poles for 2025.
